>Nightstand Re-do

>I figured I could squeeze in one more post before the craziness of teaching officially begins tomorrow…I swear I am more nervous than the students on the first day of school! : O

My husband and I didn’t have nightstands when we got married 2 years ago, until my MIL found these nightstands at a yard sale for $5! Great deal, huh?

Nice solid wood nightstands…totally used them like this for the past 2 years.

However, now that I have discovered the wonderful world of blogging and DIY makeovers…I decided this would be my first “real piece” to transform. Hubby didn’t love the idea at first, because of his obsession with wood. But since we had only paid $5 for them, and they were old, he didn’t protest too much πŸ™‚

First, we removed all of that old hardware. Then, we stripped & sanded all of the surfaces. Since my hubby isn’t as obsessed with painting everything, and this wood is a really pretty color, we compromised and decided to leave the top as unpainted wood. It did have a few small stains and nicks in it, so hubby took it on as his job to strip, sand, and poly the tops of both. And I love it πŸ™‚

*Here’s hubby hard at work…this is the first project he really took ownership of! :)*

Third Step: Prime

*Optional: Prime while watching the Emmys πŸ˜‰

Fourth Step: Paint! I used Valspar Gloss Almond

P.S. This is my favorite step πŸ™‚
>
Fifth Step: Install new hardware! We got ours from Lowes…I think they were $2.97 a piece. I love how the color coordinates with the wood top so well! πŸ™‚

After a small amount of sandpaper distressing…drum roll please…here they are!! πŸ™‚

I’m so sad I didn’t move the cords before I took this picture…but I’m too lazy to go back, reload pictures, etc πŸ˜›

I hate apologizing for my lask of pretty pictures…my camera STINKS! It’s about 5 years old now, and it was not an expensive camera 5 years ago. I am going to keep pestering hubby for a new one πŸ™‚

Think Buckley approves? πŸ˜‰

Please leave me some comments…I have been LOVING reading all of these lately!! Also, check out the awesome parties I’ll be linking to on my sidebar.

Happy back-to-school to all of my fellow teachers, our students, and their families πŸ™‚

*By the way…if you’re not a follower…what are you waiting for?! I am waiting to hit 50 followers so I can do my very first give-away!* πŸ™‚

I am also a teacher and have been for the last 20 plus years. I have been a junk/thrift store addict for a while now and have just started trying a few projects myself. Your projects are inspiring. Keep sharing them with us.
