>Pleated Pillow

>Happy MLK Jr. Day! I am so thankful to have off of work today!

I’ve been a little obsessed with pillows lately. I don’t really know why! I made this pillow…and just wanted to make more and more after that!
I decided to combine my love for pillows (and the fact that pillow forms are 50% off at JoAnns this week!) with the new color scheme I’ve seen everywhere: yellow & gray. Just take a look at some of these fun things I found on Etsy:

Cute, right?! I do not have ANYTHING that would match with this…but I wanted to make something to sell on Etsy with this color scheme. Here’s my ATTEMPT at a tutorial (my first sewing one…yikes!) I’ll say it again…I am NOT a sewing expert at ALL.

First, cut out your fabric an inch bigger than your pillow form:

I also cut fabric that was a little more than double the height of the pillow. Now, my original plan was to have two ruffles of that fabric on the right…but that failed miserably. Oh, so bad. I really ended up only using one of those strips in the end…so just ignore the second one 🙂

I made my embellishment first. I folded it with the right sides together, and sewed them on one side:

Then I turned it “inside out”…and ironed it flat. Now, I was trying to make a ruffle out of this originally. Epic fail. I used the strongest thread I had…read so many tutorials online…and still…FAIL! I didn’t take a picture, I was SO frustrated. SO, I found this tutorial on how to sew cute little pleats…and it was SUPER easy! I first sewed the pleat, and then sewed it again onto the pillow’s fabric. They’re not perfect…and I used a contrasting thread, so it’s a little more noticable, but I’m getting over it:

I then sewed a simple rectangular pillow cover, and I pinned the pleated embellishment on so it all sewed together. Make sure you leave a big enough “hole” so you can put your pillow form in:

Then, I hand-stitched the open seam (using a white thread)…and it’s all done!

UPDATE:

Megan used her $10 credit toward this pillow on my Etsy shop…yay! Come check out the rest of the items I have listed though…they’re all very reasonably priced, and they’re made with love 🙂

You can buy a special foot for your machine to do that, by the way. Just keep studying the how-tos and practicing. That's how I taught myself. Thanks for linking to the party. Your creations are getting better and better all the time. ;)Blessings,Liz @ the Brambleberry Cottagehttp://thebrambleberrycottage.blogspot.com/
