>Paperwhites: a pre-holiday gift

>

I realized TODAY that Support Staff Appreciation Day is TOMORROW…yikes!

After work, I went to a few local stores where I can usually pick up some smaller gifts…but no luck 😦 Then I remembered that I had seen some beautiful bulbs planted in glass jars at my mom’s house this weekend…and the lightbulbs started to go off.

I went to Wal*Mart, and found a box of 4 paperwhites for $5.00. Apparantly, it’s getting late for these bulbs, and they just sold out of them. This was a planter kit, but I only needed the bulbs. That’s what I get for being late! I had a bag of small stones in my house from the Dollar Store, and some stones I picked up at the thrift store…I did buy a bag of big rocks at Wal*Mart for $5.00. I also looked for glass vases, but there were none that would be big enough that were under $5.00…so I just “shopped my house” and I emptied these apothecaries from this project:

Two things: 1. Good thing I was lazy and never glued my bottoms to the jars! Haha sometimes laziness works in my favor 🙂 2. WOW look at the difference in quality between my old camera and my new one! Amazing! 🙂

I filled them strategically with the different sizes of rocks, and put 2 bulbs in the top of each glass.

I then filled the vases so the water level was right below the bottom of the bulbs. Then, I decided they needed a little more embellishment, so I hot-glued some ribbons onto the top:

I then cut some cute scrapbooking paper, and wrote out directions of how to care for the bulbs, and attached them like this:
All done! Soon they will look like this:

You think they’re cute? I think my 2 lovely classroom assistants will feel appreciated tomorrow on their day 🙂

    >Ok love it! And I am totally laughing at myself, because I loved your apothecary jars and went last week to Dollar tree and purchased different sized vases like that and the candle holders, but…..I glued the candle holders and vases together! After this post, I now see that was not the case!!! Oh well it worked. LOL
