>This is the way I organize my "girl space"
>First of all, I hate using the word “vanity” for this space. I understand the reasoning, but it just strikes a nerve. So, I will call it my “girl space” 🙂
So my husband and I are young and on a very tight budget. We have a LOT of hand-me-down furniture around our house from our families, and leftover furniture from college. Now that I have discovered the amazing world of DIY blogging, this isn’t such a bad thing 🙂
I was inspired by Bonnie at House of Grace to show all of you how I have organized my “girl space”.
This is my desk from the second grade! Isn’t that crazy?! I love that I used it every night for homework as a kid, and now I can use it every day as a married lady 🙂 However, I was not as crazy about the pickled wood. I forgot to take a complete “before” picture, but here is what the coloring is…
I bought this paint at Lowes for $3.00! I LOVE the color! 🙂
After I painted the whole desk, I added new handles from Lowes
Much better 🙂 Now, to add the final “girly touches”…I went to our local thrift store, and over a few trips, I found some great milk glass to organize my beauty supplies
Isn’t it pretty?! I was so happy with how they turned out 🙂
So here’s the whole “girl space”!
Please ignore the hideous blue carpet…remember, we’re renting! Here’s a rundown of the items you see in these pictures…
Oval mirror – $7.00 from a thrift store in VA – repainted many times, for now it’s painted to match the desk!
Floating shelves- $6.00 total from Ross
Home-made Necklace Organizer – total cost was $21 (check out how I made it here)
Home-made earring organizer- total cost $5.66 (check out how I made it here)
Milk Glass pieces – $9.30 total
Lamp base- $1.90 from the thrift store, then spraypainted with leftover spraypaint
Lampshade- $8.00 (from Wal*Mart) with a ribbon from JoAnn glued on for $2.00
Desk Paint – $3.00
Desk handles- $5.94 total
GRAND TOTAL: $67.80
Not too bad! Let me know your thoughts! 🙂
